Dervish dance is a traditional art that has its roots in Sufism, a mystical movement in Islam. It is also known as "sema" or "mevlevi" and its peculiarity is a beautiful and symbolic ritual performance presented in the form of a round dance.
The traditional dervish dance involves men dressed in long white robes with wide round skirts. They keep their arms up and rotate on their axis, creating a beautiful and harmonious movement. An important element of this dance is the symbolism of spinning, representing the search for divine truth and union with God.
The dance of the dervishes is usually accompanied by music, and the performance itself is a form of meditation and spiritual realization. The rotation of dervishes also symbolizes the rotation of the planets and the rotation on their axis, calling for inner centering and harmony.
This traditional dance is a unique combination of physical activity, spiritual practice, and artistic expression.
